News and Rumors on Denver Broncos : San Francisco 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick could still make NFL switch to the Super Bowl 50 Champions

The San Francisco 49ers star quarterback Colin Kaepernick has reportedly met with defending Super Bowl Champions general manager John Elway as a trade remains a possibility.

Colin Kaepernick – who was drafted by the SF 49ers in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft – met with at Denver Broncos GM John Elway’s house on Thursday. The University of Nevada product quarterback Colin Kaepernick and John Elway have met at least twice since March 15, per San Francisco Chronicle.

The quarterback has spent his offseason nursing his left shoulder, right thumb and left knee from surgeries in Vail, Colorado, which is about 100 miles drive from Denver. The San Francisco 49ers have granted Colin Kaepernick’s agents permission to seek a trade.

Colin Kaepernick’s $11.9 million base salary for the 2016 National Football League season became guaranteed with the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

According to multiple reports, the Denver Broncos are apparently interested in trading for quarterback Colin Kaepernick but only should the San Francisco 49ers quarterback accepts a pay cut.

After the veteran quarterback Peyton Manning retired and heir-apparent starter Brock Osweiler opted to sign with Houston Texans, the Denver Broncos acquired veteran Mark Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles just last month in a trade deal. The Denver Broncos have been looking to boost their depth at quarterback position, and Colin Kaepernick has been consistently linked with the franchise.

The Denver Broncos are hoping to entice Colin Kaepernick to restructure his contract so the quarterback can serve as retired Peyton Manning’s replacement for the team rather than Blaine Gabbert’s backup in San Francisco 49ers in 2016.

Because Colin Kaepernick wasn’t released or traded before Thursday’s deadline, he doesn’t have to accept anything less than $11.9 million next season. However the Denver Broncos offers him an opportunity to start for the defending team. Both teams would have to agree on draft pick compensation.

The Denver Broncos have less than $2 million in cap space and would have to do some more financial move to make room for Colin Kaepernick. The team could gain some more cap space by either trading or releasing left tackle Ryan Clady, who’s due $9.5 million in 2016.

Meanwhile, Trevor Siemian, a seventh-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft who didn’t play a snap as a rookie, also is on the Denver Broncos’ roster.
